Bar Grating Fabrication – New in Huntington!

Ben O'DellCompany News

Huntington Steel & Supply, a steel service center and fabricator based in West Virginia, has recently introduced bar grating fabrication to their Huntington location.

What is Bar Grating Fabrication?

Bar grating is the reshaping and resizing of parallel and perpendicular steel bars that are welded together to create a “grate.” These grates are strong, durable, long-lasting platforms that are able to support everything from simple pedestrian walkways to heavy vehicular traffic. Moreover, bar grating is nearly maintenance free, as the holes created by the perpendicular bars allow any dirt or dust to fall straight through.

Why Bar Grating Fabrication for Huntington Steel Morgantown?

Huntington Steel has launched bar grating fabrication primarily because of the new demand for such materials resulting from the boom of the oil and gas industry in Northern West Virginia. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), “Crude oil production in West Virginia . . . has nearly tripled since 2012.” The EIA also states that “West Virginia is the leading natural gas-producing area in the nation,” (EIA).

Commenting on the recent boom in the West Virginia oil and gas industry, the director of the West Virginia Oil and Natural Gas Association (WVONGA), one of the self-proclaimed “oldest and deeply rooted associations in the state,” has said, “With the advancements in technology that have allowed us to access the enormous oil and natural gas reserves . . . production is going up and new ideas for end uses of natural gas are emerging. The possibilities for our industry and those downstream are big,” (WVONGA).

With the huge increase in production in the West Virginia oil and gas industry, there is high demand for bar grating to be used in the construction of new industrial applications and platforms for drilling sites. Not only does Huntington Steel aim to meet this demand, but they also intend to offer a high quality product at an affordable price for these oil and gas companies. Huntington Steel plans to fabricate smaller grating platforms that would otherwise be difficult to purchase from other, larger companies with bar grating fabrication capabilities.

With this unique angle in bar grating fabrication, Huntington Steel will capitalize on the demand coming from the growth of the oil and gas industry in Northern West Virginia and continue to strengthen the local economy.
